6 Northernhay Place,

EXETER.

October, 10th, 1938.

Sir,

43

We would refer you to your letter to us dated the 3rd April 1928 and Numbered 3114/1919 informing us that in the event of the death of Mr. J.J. Bryan formerly in the service of your Government Mrs. Bryan's pension under the Widows' and Orphans' Scheme would be 803.74 $ plus 25 per cent

temporary increase, the total of 1004.68 $, or £150:14:0

per annum, the pension being payable in sterling at 3/-s

per dollar, and our Client has now received a letter from the Crown Agents for the Colonies informing him of a decision that pensions granted from the Widows' and Orphans Pensions Fund on or after the 1st June 1938, calculated on

dollar salaries will be payable at the current rate of exchange.

It would appear obviously that a mistake has been

made in sending the letter from the Crown Agents to Mr. Bryan as the question of the Pension due to his Widow has already

been settled in accordance with your letter of the 3rd April

1928.

We shall be glad if you will kindly let us have a

line confirming this as Mr. Bryan is anxious to have the matter

put in order now so that no difficulties will arise on his

death.

The Colonial Secretary,

Colonial Secretary's Office,

We are, Sir,

Your obedient Servants,

(Sa.) W.H. Stone & Co.
